Valerie (Kehembe) Eichelberger,
Chair and Instructor (Voice and Music Business Seminar), holds
a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music Degree from Howard University. She has had vocal study with LeRoy Dorsey,
Frederick Wilkerson, McLean Bosfield, Hilda Harris and Grady Tate; Professor Eichelberger has performed
as a soloist, in an ensemble, and a studio vocalist on all Kennedy Center stages, Wolf Trap Farm Park, George Washington University,
University of Maryland, The Catholic University of America, George Mason University, and Mount Vernon University. Opera companies
which she has been a part of, include, Northern Virginia Opera, Washington Opera, Metropolitan Opera, and Victoria Opera
- Australia. She has also appeared on radio and television broadcasts. Her nine recordings, include selections from the
following genres: European Classical, Jazz, and Spirituals, including the recent Peabody Award nominated "Wade in the
Water" series on Folkways Records. Her roles in opera, oratorio, and musicals include Carmen, Carmen Jones, Harlem
Noctourne, Jelly's Last Jam, Verdi's Requiem Mass, Handel's Messiah, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Rossini's Stabat Mater, Bach's
St. Matthew Passion and B Minor Mass.
